Drug & Alcohol Counselling in Leeds

In Person | Phone | Online

Drug and alcohol issues can have a profound impact on many aspects of life and for many individuals, addiction to substances like drugs or alcohol can feel like an ongoing cycle that is difficult to break. Support is available and with the right help, recovery is possible.

The person-centred counselling I provide offers a supportive and non-judgmental space where clients can explore the underlying causes of their substance misuse, understand their behaviours, and work towards meaningful change. Through this process, clients are encouraged to explore healthier coping strategies, build emotional resilience, and set goals for lasting recovery.

With over 15 years of experience in mental health services, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges associated with drug and alcohol abuse. Some of my relevant experience includes:

  • Working within an alcohol addiction charity where I supported clients through co-creating tailored action plans, helping them to track their alcohol intake over time and also facilitated social groups.

  • Supporting clients who have lost their jobs through mental health difficulties exacerbated by drug and alcohol use to build their employability skills, create a CV and find meaningful work.

  • Helping clients at risk of losing their tenancies due to issues stemming from their drug addiction to access recovery services and working with housing agencies to keep them in their homes.

Clients often access counselling with me to explore how drug and alcohol issues are affecting their lives and to work towards making positive, lasting changes. This therapeutic work helps clients in various areas, including:

  • Understanding the emotional and psychological factors contributing to substance use, such as trauma, stress, and unmet emotional needs.

  • Identifying triggers and patterns that lead to substance use, and exploring healthier alternatives for coping with emotional or situational stress.

  • Building strategies for relapse prevention, including managing cravings, handling stress, and responding to emotional triggers without resorting to drugs or alcohol.

  • Rebuilding relationships impacted by addiction, with a focus on restoring trust and communication with family and friends.

  • Supporting long-term recovery, whether clients are just beginning their recovery journey, currently in treatment, or seeking ongoing support to maintain sobriety and emotional well-being.

For anyone struggling with drugs or alcohol, counselling can be an excellent way to increase understanding and manage the impact of addiction. If you are ready to explore how your relationship with drugs and/or alcohol is affecting your life and are looking for support, please get in touch for a free initial consultation.
