Counselling for ADHD in Leeds

The understanding regarding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is increasing all the time and it is recognised as a complex condition that affects many individuals’ ability to focus, control impulses, and manage daily tasks.
The person-centred counselling I provide offers a valuable opportunity for clients to explore, understand, and manage their ADHD symptoms.
I have spent over 15 years working in a variety of mental health and well-being services and through this, I have developed a rich understanding of the challenges ADHD can present and how to work positively with neurodiversity. Some of this work has included:
-
Working within a mental health housing team to support neurodiverse clients to overcome the barriers they face related to housing including household management, bills and moving house.
-
Supporting clients diagnosed with ADHD to identify the areas of their lives affected by it and co-creating personalised goals to address these challenges.
-
Creating and facilitating an eight-week workshop for neurodiverse individuals to learn more about self-advocacy and how to implement it in their own lives.
Clients with ADHD (suspected or diagnosed) regularly choose to work with me to better understand how it is impacting their lives and explore various ways to overcome this. This experience helps me to better understand and support clients with issues related to ADHD, such as:
-
Navigating difficulties with focus and attention in various settings, including work and home.
-
Understanding impulsive behaviours and recognising their effects on decision-making and relationships.
-
Evaluating the potential benefits and drawbacks of seeking an ADHD diagnosis.
-
Exploring the challenges of growing up with ADHD and how this has shaped their adult lives.
-
Implementing personalised strategies to overcome challenges such as time management and task completion.
