Counselling for Anxiety in Leeds

Whist anxiety is something that we all experience from time to time, it can become a problem when these feelings are very intense, persistent and cause people to withdraw from everyday situations.


The therapy I offer can support clients to get a clearer picture of what is driving their anxiety, how this has been shaped by life experiences and to explore the choices they have in responding to it.


I have spent over 10 years working in various front-line mental health services which have supported clients struggling with anxiety, giving me a unique understanding of the impact this can have. Some of this work has included:


  • Creating and facilitating a series of workshops for migrants and refugees around mental health and how to cope with intense feelings of anxiety.

  • Supporting a caseload of clients who were either homeless or in unsuitable accommodation to navigate the  housing system and manage the anxiety associated with this.

  • Working 1-1 with individuals suffering from a range of mental health difficulties to identify areas of their lives in which anxiety had become a barrier and subsequently supporting them to face these anxieties by engaging in new activities.


Anxiety is a challenge that many of the clients I work with want to explore in therapy. This has helped to enhance my understanding of the different ways in which it can manifest and offer support  related to this such as:


  • Exploring how certain people, situations, places etc. trigger intense anxiety and how this has developed over time.

  • Recognising the way anxiety may be a barrier to achieving certain goals in life.

  • Understanding the positive impact anxiety can have and the valuable information that can be gained from paying attention to it.

  • Evaluating current strategies for managing anxiety and thinking about potential alternatives to these.

  • Recognising the effects anxiety can have on personal relationships and exploring ways to modify these.
